I have two major problems with New Avengers #4:

1) Carol makes a joke about the time she was kidnapped, brainwashed, raped, and impregnated by Marcus, and she’s abandoned by the Avengers. Claremont originally undid the storyline, but Bendis, among others, have brought it back. I’m sorry, but I’ve never heard a rape victim make a joke about being raped.

On top of that, after her abuse at Marcus’ hand, when Carol returns to Earth, Rogue drains her of all her powers and her memories. A big part of Brian Reed’s work on her character was reconciling all the storylines and making mention that Carol has no feelings attached to those memories. Which why when Carol was ripped from her body into astral form would she ever compare it to the feeling of being raped/brainwashed/impregnated by an alien? WTF?

2) Iron Fist just became the White Power Ranger. (The Green Power Ranger turns into the White Power Ranger and has all these special powers.) Seriously, Bendis, maybe you need to step away from your kids’ TV shows. Thanks for making the Iron Fist a joke, again.

So we still don’t know why Iron Fist became the White Power Ranger…

And with their powers combined, Wolverine becomes Captain Planet.

I’m sorry, Bendis, but I’m just bored by your plotting. I like your snappy dialog, but dialog can’t fill the place of plot. I’m just really thankful that Brother Voodoo is actually being used. Even if the plot has been focusing all around Doctor Strange.

Did we just seriously kill off Doctor Voodoo? Is this so Doctor Strange, the white guy, can be Sorcerer Supreme again? For reals? Is Bendis pulling a Geoff Johns, in the killing off minorities characters to bring back his Silver Age boyhood loves?

Also, I really hate this cover. Usually, I like Immonen’s art, but lately, he hasn’t been able to draw Mockingbird at all.
