Yeah, dream realm wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. Or perhaps seems more self-indulgent than I want. It reminds me of some Salvador Dali paintings crossed with Beat writings. Rathborn certainly seems to accompany such an idea.
Yeah, Kate’s incredibly stressed here. But I don’t see her breaking down as much as she does. Also seems like the dream realm thugs should’ve killed her in this moment, instead of conveniently waiting until Kalliyan woke her up.
The only part I loved a lot was Kate’s moment with Aline. More of this, thank you. I love everything Aline wears.
Not sure what we’re really going to get out of dream realm.

The dream world continues to be convoluted. Especially when we haven’t even really learned the rules around the reality in this book.
Rathborn seems pompous still and ridiculous. He never seems like a real threat to Kate and Kalliyan. Even if Kalliyan doesn’t have her army with her, he doesn’t seem like a huge problem. They simply just had to run over a border. And we see what a little man he actually is when he runs out of his larger body.
I do worry that all Kate’s dreams about her father coming to her rescue means that’s exactly what’s going to happen in this book.
And then Kate meets her mother. Somehow I don’t think this is what she looked like when Chris and her conceived Kate.
Seems like a bit of Kate’s memories have been messed with if she doesn’t even remember where’s she born. I do like that we find out that Kate’s mom is Hindi.
I’m so excited that Alarm Cat has chosen a name: Cassius. And that his only loyalty is with the young Chris. Things aren’t going to be great for Kate’s relationship with him when she shows up. Cassius is a little angry.

Okay, Prospero is apparently the council that controls all of reality. With so many creatures, it does seem like there would have to be something stopping them from fighting with each other or heck, even going into extinction due to lack of large populations.
I’m a bit disappointed that Kate’s mom doesn’t seem to have a name. Although she’s possibly very old and possibly always looked like that.
It was really hard to buy Kate really enjoying her life. Particularly the part about Cassius, given his feelings about her and how she never actually gave him a name. Then basically discarded him.
Kalliyan really seems to be over her head, especially with her petition to join Prospero.
And then Kate gets sent to yet another reality without her memories. Thanks, mom.
Totally called it that Chris would come back to save the day.
