Having a movie night to cheer Liv up was a cute excuse for Usdin to run through their favorite sports movies. As a queer woman, it’s not surprising that many of these movies I’ve loved too, even if I’m not into sports.
The team rallying around Liv, even if she wants to wallow in her embarrassment, felt right. They also gave her some space, and they didn’t require that she show up for practice that week.
Of course, everyone knew about Charlie and Liv. That’s how a team works. Also, I don’t know who expected Tiffany to keep any secrets. There hasn’t been an issue about her yet, but that seems obvious.
There’s one more issue of Avant-Guards, and I’m curious to see how it will come together. Besides Charlie and Liv finally dating fully. Was this eight-issue run everything that Usdin was planning?

Dang. There is clearly one more arc here, and I’m unsure if we’re getting that story ever.
This issue dug into both who Tiffany and Nicole are since they are the last characters we haven’t spent a lot of one-to-one time with. Both of them have secrets in their lives that they’re keeping from the team.
Tiffany’s secret is that her dad is a very famous scientist and astronaut. Also, her other secret is that she keeps a cat in her dorm room and lights candles. Yeah, all this is very relatable dorm-living witch content right here. Tiffany defiantly lives her life, but at the same time, it was great to see how much she does love her father and how he loves her. His calling Tiffany “Star” was so sweet.
On the other hand, Nicole has fallen in love with standup comedy, and she no longer wants to be a classical musician. Nicole’s right that music at that level is not something you can fake love for. I also have a feeling I know who is going to be the influencer who makes their basketball tournament popular enough for the league to continue.
Or which two influencers will be doing so.
Liv will find out either way. Charlie being a sneakerhead is obvious, but cute. You have to love how many events there are for all niche hobbies these days.
I hope we’ll see a final arc for this book as I’d love to have some closure on this story.
