This is the fanfiction dream of those raised on ’70s Wonder Woman and Bionic Woman. This is not me. (I’m a bit too young.) This is actually the first Bionic Woman media I’ve consumed. But I don’t pass up what could be a very interesting story.
No doubt, Mangels knows their characters. Especially Wonder Woman. I had the pleasure of meeting Mangels when both of us were digging through back issue boxes at Rose City Comic Con a couple years ago for Wonder Woman comics.
The plot seems very straightforward, and the government is good and takes down the bad guys. Bad guys that I’m pretty sure we’d know from the TV shows.
I like Eve a lot. I also loved that Jaime immediately knew that Diana was Wonder Woman, and she questioned how no one — especially Steve — had noticed.
My biggest dislike of this book was Tondora’s uneven art. I think books based on TV shows are hard since there’s a stricter interpretation of how someone looks. But Tondora’s style just seems off. The shapes aren’t quite right. I even had issues telling who Steve was during the action.

Tondora’s art got an uplift this issue. Her faces are much better, and the outfits are more interesting. Diana’s funeral dress as Wonder Woman is gorgeous. I like this idea that its Themysciran, not American/Western in design.
I’ve only seen Doctor Cyber in modern comics with a redesign. I wonder how she was included in the TV show.
I did really appreciate the notes about the Easter Eggs and references to both the Wonder Woman and Bionic Woman TV show. I kind of wish that they wouldn’t have waited until the next issue to explain the ones from the first issue. It added more layers.
I’m always confused by Wonder Woman’s swimsuit/burkini. One hundred percent super serious about her mission.
My favorite moment was Diana sharing with Jamie how she changes into her Wonder Woman costume. It was a beautiful scene between new friends.

So much exposition. Painful exposition. And even though there was a character who called out the exposition, the lampshading didn’t relieve the pain I’d just gone through.
Okay, this big villain convention maybe this shouldn’t happen halfway through your story. Just saying. Also, they all blended together except Doctor Cyber as I don’t see differences between white men and they were all Nazis anyway. So they are bad.
Jamie calling out Wonder Woman’s need to change was pretty cute and cheeky.
Tondora’s art continues to improve. Though I also cannot tell the difference between her Steve Trevor and her whomever Jamie’s handler is as I forgot his name. Except that Steve is the one not wearing a tie. Also, Steve is supposed to be better than being sexist.
Max is a good boy. I love that Mangels doesn’t forget that Diana can talk to animals.
Dr. Rudy is so creepy. Like you don’t want to be alone with him as he’ll likely pitch your butt or inappropriately comment on how cute you are creepy. I’m like “yes, villains, do take him away. #metoo.”
Disappointed that they didn’t continue to do the little explainers in the issue’s backmatter.
